Title : How success looks like in distraction osteogenesis for cosmetic stature increase

Abstract:

Distraction osteogenesis for cosmetic stature increase has gained increasing popularity. Despite this fact, there is only scarce published evidence about the outcomes. The truth is that we do not really know how success looks in CLL, especially in the longer term In this talk we will present our conclusions based on clinical data from more than 600 cases.

Patient selection is of paramount importance. The diagnosis of body dysmorphic disorder and its severity should be thoroughly assessed. Unrealistic expectations are an important parameter of patient compliance and they should be managed pre-operatively. Pain, range of movement, return to pre-operative functional levels and improvement of psychological height dysphoria symptoms  are important elements of measurement of outcome and need to be measured and monitored.
