Title : Double lift loop system to suspend the thumb after a trapeziectomy
Abstract:
Background: Trapezial excision with Double lift loop system to suspend the thumb have proven to be highly effective techniques for treating primary osteoarthritis CMC joint of the thumb (basal thumb arthritis). Our aim is to follow up our outcomes with this technique, with a minimum of 24 months of follow-up.
Materials and Methods: 16 patients were operated on thumb CMC joint using Double lift loop system to suspend the thumb between 2020 and 2020.Each patient was followed up and completed the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (Quick DASH) questionnaire , pain level , tip pinch, key pinch, and grip strength and range of motion were measured , radiological evaluation post-operative were documented.
Results: The average evaluate the patient was 24 months. The median VAS pain score and Quick DASH improved significantly from preoperatively to postoperatively, No significant difference (p=0.156) in range of motion, measured using the Kapandji score and In contrast, the first web space angulation improved significantly between pre- and post-operative measurements, there are 3 patient had some complication as rupture of suture and collapse of first web space.
Conclusion: The most common procedures to treat CMC osteoarthritis is simple excision arthroplasty, in the same time there are many surgical option have been described. The double left loop system to suspension of thumb post trapeziectmy is simple and don’t need harvesting of tendon and prolonged immobilization.
