Title : Unstable length femur fracture in pediatric group using SBP in misurata medical center
Abstract:
Background:
Mid shaft fracture of femur is one of most common fracture orthopedic injury in child age group However, the management of these fracture still controversial in his age group between ages 5 to 13. The optimum approach for this age group fracture looks to be surgical management, to allow mobilization early, the target of this study was to detect the advantage of SBP, 1.early mobilizer compared to other method 2. Healing in unstable length fracture with less complication, 2.LLD and alignment, 3.acceptable result in MMC.
Method:
All children cases with unstable length mid shaft femur fracture who were managed over period of 2 years, Patients were managed with this technique SBP using special of care technique. The 12-month post-operative follow up between fractured leg & healthy leg was done, to see the advantage of this technique of fixation and to evaluate LLD, union, alignment and other complications.
Result:
Overall, 16 patients (Mean age 8±2 year) were involved. The majority of the fractures were unstable length. Two open fractures Type IIIA according to Gustilo. And/or Wight 45 kg. Twelve fractures involved the mid shaft of the femur, two patient involved the junction between proximal and midshaft femur and three the distal third. All fracture united & healed within adequate time, No overall leg length discrepancy or coronal mechanical axis deviation was observed between injured & healthy legs at 12 and 24-month post-operative fallow up. No difference between two hip flexion, ER, IR and two-knee flexion.
Conclusion:
SBP technique result good outcome in mid shaft fracture femur in children & it is favorable method of fixation for a.Unstable length b. children Wight > 45 kg and its simple and safe technique.
