Brachialis Muscle

Brachialis Muscle

The Brachialis Muscle is a major muscle located in the upper arm, situated underneath the biceps brachii. It plays a crucial role in elbow flexion, allowing the forearm to move toward the upper arm. Unlike the biceps brachii, the brachialis muscle is not involved in supination (rotation of the forearm). The brachialis originates from the lower part of the humerus and inserts into the ulna, making it a powerful flexor of the elbow joint. Its primary function is to generate force during activities like lifting and pulling. Injuries or strains to the brachialis muscle can occur, often due to overuse or sudden, forceful movements. Physical therapists may recommend specific exercises to strengthen and rehabilitate the brachialis after injury. Understanding the anatomy and function of the brachialis muscle is important in orthopaedics and sports medicine, especially when assessing and treating conditions related to the elbow joint and upper extremities. Strengthening exercises for the brachialis can contribute to overall upper limb stability and function.
